I'm only part-way through Vanity Fair's special issue but this is well done so far.
Ta-Nehisi Coates still refusing to pass around empty words of hope because his pragmatism prevents him from doing so, Killer Mike explaining (again) why he spoke in Atlanta- the complexity of his decision to do that, and how it felt to see that police precinct burn in Minneapolis (we share the same sentiment), Al Sharpton convening with the Floyd family before they buried him, and talking about how a call from Obama on the day of his funeral allowed them to "exhale" if only for a few minutes, and Amy Sherald's breathtaking art. I mean, really. Her work, man. Jacqueline Woodson is featured here too, though I haven't yet read her contribution. Anyway. You can read the issue for free online. Fitting it drops on the day we're talking about Jacob Blake being shot seven times in the back by police, while his children were psychologically tortured as they watched and pleaded and screamed from the backseat of his car. Reminder: Philando Castile was also shot in front of his girlfriend's 4 year-old-daughter. When you dehumanize a group of people, their children also become expendable.

Got to talk #blackromance, #blackbooks, #blackwomen, #protectingblackwomen, and #jacintahowardbooks with Sistah Girls Book Club for #blackindieauthorday. A lot of #hashtags but it was so much fun talking to Lissa Marie, who is dope and awesome. Love Sistah Girls.

I wrote this back in 2019 while I was blocked, finishing up Loving Cassie. You can grab it now for FREE if you're into apocalyptic short stories. The plan is to possibly write a full-length dystopian novel at some point in the near future.

••Download it here--> https://dl.bookfunnel.com/gr6dcaiw9n Brian Jace only had one purpose when he left Phoenix for Miami—to convince Destiny Michaels that there was more than just a lifetime of friendship between them. His calm and steady approach worked—Brian finally got his girl, and he’s never been happier. But just when Brian and Destiny think they’re finally free to enjoy each other on a new level, a fresh set of challenges that Brian wasn’t prepared for arise, and their love is once again, put to the test. Is love always enough? Will Brian be able to hold on to Destiny, when he’s still fighting his own demons? Or this time, will he be the one to walk away? For the next few weeks, until March 20th, Nia Forrester, Lily Java, and I will be publishing weekly Love Shorts in Jacinta Howard Books and in Because My Heart Said So.
What are LOVE SHORTS? Just what they sound like. Short stories about how love starts, blossoms, and sometimes ends ... EXCLUSIVELY in the groups mentioned above! -Mondays: Lily's Love Shorts -Wednesday: Jacinta's Love Shorts -Fridays: Nia's Love Shorts Tell a friend, spread the word. The Prototype Glimpse series is now complete! Travis+Kennedy (from Finding Kennedy) and Zay+Jersey (from Happiness In Jersey) are here and available for download on Amazon, rounding out this quick little catch up with The Prototype crew. Woot-woot! I had a good time writing these Glimpses, I think because I enjoyed writing about them as married couples. These stories are quick, cute, sensual and yes, emotional— y'all already know how I do, even in short love stories. Ha! Anyway, like I said, I had fun with this quick little series because I love these characters so much. I hope that if you dig the Prototype, these Glimpses satisfied your itch, and you're happy with where they are now like I am. Basically, I wrote these stories in reverse order from the way the series is published. There is a thread of continuity throughout all four Glimpses, so for the full experience, you'll want to read all four stories in the following order: Bam+Cassie, Devin+Willow, Travis+Kennedy, and Zay+Jersey. Also if you're not signed up for my newsletter, you really should! There's a FREE giveaway happening there for everyone who's subscribed and is quick on the draw. Don't miss out! |
